Many entrepreneurs, especially brand new ones, want results NOW. While this is understandable and honorable, it’s rarely a reality. Success in any area of life requires much trial and error. It’s often a rollercoaster ride of wins and losses.
If you want to turn your business desires into winning results, here are five steps you must take. Then, once you go through the process, you must repeat it over and over again in order to go to new levels of achievement.
1 – Clearly Define Your Desire
Most people don’t get what they want because they don’t truly know what they want. Or, they haven’t clearly defined a vague desire that is stirring inside of them. In Napoleon Hill’s classic book, “Think and Grow Rich,” he teaches the principle of needing to have a “burning desire” that you can’t shake.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I truly want what I say I want?
- Am I willing to go through the challenges and obstacles to pursue it?
- When I’m laying on my deathbed, will not achieving this desire truly matter to me?
How you answer these questions will give you a good understanding of how much you truly desire the success you claim to want. If the desire is still there, write out a statement defining exactly what you want to achieve.
2 – Make a Firm Decision
After you have accomplished step #1, you have to make a decision to pursue the desire with all your strength, energy, and resources. This decision will impact other decisions about opportunities that come your way while in pursuit of this one desire. Many entrepreneurs fall prey to “shiny object syndrome” where they chase fads and new opportunities because the process of pursuing their core desire is challenging and takes longer than they want. If you are going to accomplish your ultimate desire, you must decide that you’ll say “no” to anything and anyone that competes with its accomplishment.
3 – Develop an Action Plan
No desire will be accomplished without a plan of action. And that plan must be implemented, not just sitting on your computer or written on a piece of paper somewhere. It’s often been stated that success comes from planning your work and then working your plan. Achieving your stated desire will only come from investing the upfront time and effort to create an action plan that you can then commit to implementing.
4 – Develop a Powerful Marketing Message
One of the key issues we see many of our clients fall prey to is undervaluing marketing as a requirement for success. Authors, coaches, and course creators often find it fairly easy to create the content needed for their books, programs, and courses. However, they hit a wall once the creation process is completed because they don’t realize how important marketing is to sell ANYTHING. If you are going to truly impact lives, gain greater influence, and grow your income through your business, developing a powerful marketing message that is targeted to your ideal audience is vital. You can’t skip this step and expect exponential, long-term success.
5 – Share Your Message With a Receptive Audience
Once you have done the hard work of creating your marketing message that speaks directly to your audience, you need to then share that message with them where they will see it and respond. Believing that your product or service can help “anyone” will lead you to a path of limited success and maximum frustration. There is an ideal audience for what you have to offer. If you didn’t define that audience before creating your offer, you must clarify it now in order to place the offer in front of them. Would you try to catch a mouse with salt or put a cheese block out in the woods to attract deer? No! You need to make sure that you are sharing your attractive message with your ideal audience in relevant places where they hang out. When you do that, you can generate high-quality leads, customers, and clients that you envisioned serving when you defined your desire in step #1.
Entrepreneurship is an amazing journey, but it’s not easy. Being a content creator isn’t easy, but it’s often much easier than the marketing process that is required for success.
