Step #1 – Listen
Before you jump into your next idea, listen to what the market is saying. Watch what is happening online and in the physical marketplace. Observe the needs and desires of the demographic you seek to serve. While it’s natural to take action on what you think your ideal customers want, it’s actually foolish to spend all your time and energy creating based on assumptions. We’ve all heard what happens when we assume!
Step #2 – Ask
Beyond passively observing, take the initiative to actually ask people what they want or need. People love to share about themselves when asked good questions. It shows compassion and wisdom when you connect with the very people you want to help. This is a key step in creating raving fans of your business. Products and services that are created based on feedback can start out as a top-notch version that will excite customers and clients who are then more likely to purchase from you.
Step #3 – Refine
Even if your first version of your product or service is good, you can always make it better. “New and improved!” messaging has been around for generations. It’s not just a slick marketing slogan, but rather a sign that companies are continually refining their offers. Some things need to stay the same (think about the “New Coke” disaster of the 1980s). However, most products and services can be fine-tuned over time to give people better and faster results, which is critical in our world today. Find ways to make adjustments over time. Ask for feedback from your customers. Listen to their responses and adjust accordingly.
Creating an “irresistible offer” is to your specific prospective customers can be challenging, but if you’ll consistently implement these three key steps, you’ll set yourself up for less frustration and greater success in your business.
